Music at the Oratory
Our Holy Father, Saint Philip Neri was a great supporter of beautiful sacred music and art. Yet, this was not because of a particular taste for classical music or the things of culture, but rather, because he knew that beautiful music, dedicated to God, can till the soil of the soul to prepare it to receive the spiritual gifts that God desires to impart to us.
While it is true that all that is needed to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass are the essentials of bread, wine, priest, faithful and the prayers of the Church, music and hymnody done well and with the vocal participation of the faithful, can lift our hearts and souls to prepare us for an encounter with the living God. Sacred Music provides a beautiful accompaniment to the liturgical actions and atmosphere and aid us as we lift our hearts and voices to God.
For this reason, we take great care in our sacred music program to have talented professionals and volunteers to lead us in this sacred endeavor. We currently have four choirs: The Oratory Choir, The Oratory Schola, the Oratory Children's Choir and a Spanish Language Choir. In addition, we have the Oratory Orchestra and Ensemble for special liturgies and special events.
In addition to our liturgical celebrations, we offer concerts, events and recitals throughout the year to bring high quality and beautiful music and singing to our community. Music that is good for the ears, the heart and the soul.
In order to do so, as always, we need your support. Please consider joining our Saint Cecilia Society whose purpose is to provide us with all that is necessary to keep such a vibrant music program alive and growing.
To join any of our choirs, please contact Mr. Shawn Mack, the Director of Sacred Music at the Parish Office or speak with him after Mass.
